The Teylers Museum, the Frans Hals Museum, the ABC architecture centre, the fish hall, the Dolhuys and a historical centre. Zandvoort is 7.5 km as the crow flies from Haarlem, the cultural city of the Amsterdam metropolitan area. Visit one of the many wonderful museums or stroll through the city’s old streets. It is only half an hour by bike or 15 minutes by train.
From Amsterdam beach, you can be in the centre of this metropolis in half an hour. Visit the museums on Museum Square, Madame Tussauds, Nemo, Film Museum Eye and the many other highlights. Experience the city on a city walk and then return to the tranquillity of the sea.
Ever seen 2,400 cheeses on a square together? Alkmaar is a 45-minute drive from Zandvoort. Every year from the last Friday in March to the last Friday in September, you can visit the largest and oldest cheese market in the Netherlands here from 10am to 1pm. During the market, cheeses are weighed, inspected and traded. After the sale, traditional cheese carriers carry the cheeses away again. Paid parking is easy in one of the many car parks around the city centre.
Experience luxury at one of the estates. In the Zandvoort region, there are several estates you can visit. These country houses of Amsterdam merchants of yesteryear are beautifully built and read in the middle of nature. Stroll around the grounds or have lunch in the beautiful restaurants.
In 15 minutes, you can drive from Zandvoort to Europe’s largest playground: Linnaeushof. Let the kids swing, run, fly and run wild while you enjoy a well-earned cup of coffee.
The mills at Zaanse Schans are easy to reach from Zandvoort. Both by train and by car.
Keukenhof in Lisse is a 30-minute drive from Zandvoort. Ideal for a day trip. An alternative to Keukenhof is Amsterdam Tulip Experience in Noordwijk.
IJmuiden is Zandvoort’s rugged little brother. Here you can visit the mighty locks, among other things.
The Haarlemmermeer is suitable for a long bike ride. While doing so, visit, for example, the Cruquius pumping station, which was used to pump the Haarlemmermeer dry.
