The South Pier is located in IJmuiden at the mouth of the North Sea Canal. This pier, together with the North Pier on the side of the canal, ensures that ships can sail in and out of the harbour and the canal in peace.
The pier is located at the Seaport Marina IJmuiden. In good weather it is accessible to cyclists and walkers and you can walk for miles ‘into the sea’ to the lighthouse. Along the way you will encounter fishermen and birdwatchers, and you will see large seagoing vessels sailing by. From wind force 6 the pier is closed to the public.
