Few coastal resorts are as easily accessible by public transport as Zandvoort. Twice an hour, a train runs from Amsterdam Central Station via Sloterdijk and Haarlem to NS station Zandvoort aan Zee. In summer itself, four times an hour. The two bus lines also ensure that you get your feet in the sand easily and quickly.
Zandvoort is the only seaside resort in the Netherlands with a direct train connection from Amsterdam. The station is almost on the beach (200 metres), within walking distance of the centre and a 10-minute walk from Circuit Zandvoort. So it is centrally located. From this station, you can be in Haarlem in 10 minutes and at Amsterdam Central in 30 minutes. The relatively small station has a lift and kiosk, and you can use a public transport bike.
If you travel by public transport, you can pay in different ways. If you often travel by public transport, you can buy a personalised Public Transport chip card. You can deposit an amount on this or link it to your payment account so that it is automatically debited from it. You can also buy a digital ticket at the station or via the NS app. With OV Pay, you can even check in directly with your debit card and if you travel in the greater Amsterdam area, an Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket might be the answer. Bear in mind that in all cases there is a surcharge when travelling with dogs or bicycles.
The public transport pass for Amsterdam and the surrounding area. An easy and convenient way to explore the Amsterdam region is with the Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket. This convenient multifunctional ticket allows unlimited travel on public transport by bus, tram, train and metro. You can buy your ticket online or at the I amsterdam Store and at selected transport counters.
People who occasionally travel by public transport can now pay using their bank card or mobile phone.
If you have contactless payment set up on your bank card, credit card, smartwatch or on your smartphone, you can use it to check in at public transport. Especially for tourists, this is a welcome development. After all, buying and travelling with a public transport card is not always easy.
Contactless public transport payment, OVpay, is mainly intended for people who occasionally travel second class without a discount on public transport. So you can pay contactless for both trains and buses to and from Zandvoort. You do not need to buy a separate ticket or buy and charge an OV chip card. When you now check in with your contactless payment card, the amount is automatically debited from your account. Especially for tourists, this is an ideal solution.
It works the same as contactless payment in the supermarket. To check in, you hold your debit card, credit card, smartwatch or smartphone against the card reader or gate. If you hear a bleep, you are checked in. To do this, of course, you need to have enabled cashless payment. To check out, you do exactly the same. Make sure you have taken out your payment card from your wallet, so the amount will only be debited once and you can be sure which card it was taken from. All travel expenses incurred on 1 day will be debited from your account the next day.
All major banks participate and you can also travel with Mastercard or Visa contactless credit cards. You can also pay with a mobile phone linked to one of the aforementioned debit cards. So also with Apple Pay and Google Wallet. Furthermore, you can travel with foreign contactless payment cards or credit cards from Maestro, Visa, Mastercard or V pay.
You can pay with OV pay on a large number of carriers, including NS, Arriva, GVB, Qbuzz and Transdev.
More information about OV Pay can be found at www.ovpay.nl.
Anyone with their own payment card can travel with OV Pay, including children. Children up to 4 years old travel for free and children up to 11 years old are entitled to an age discount. You can add this discount on the OVpay app. If your child does not have a debit card, use a regular ov chip card.
You are entitled to an age discount on public transport if you are over 65 or between 4 and 11 years old. You can add this discount to your payment card via the OV pay app. Under the heading ‘Passes’ and ‘More options’, select the discount.
