Tijn Akersloot has been a firm favourite in Zandvoort since 1965. This popular beachside favourite is known for its relaxed atmosphere, good food and breathtaking sea views. Why are seasonal pavilions dismantled in winter?
Dunes need space to grow. In winter, the wind creates a natural sand drift, which is important to keep the dunes strong and in shape. Beach tents can disrupt this process. In addition, the risk of storm damage is greater at this time. That is why the seasonal pavilions are dismantled in autumn.
Why are the pavilions allowed to remain standing all year round?
Fixed beach tents in Zandvoort are set up in a place that does not obstruct the natural sand drift, often behind the first row of dunes. They stand on solid foundations and are designed to withstand winter weather and storms. Thanks to strict authorisations and regulations, they take nature, safety and sustainability into account.
The beach season
In addition to the permanent beach tents in Zandvoort, the seasonal pavilions bring extra life to the beach in spring and summer. They are set up from February and as soon as they are open, you can enjoy beach life to the full. They disappear again in autumn, but fortunately you can visit the cosy year-round pavilions all year round.
