Want something different from surfing? Then try kitesurfing, supping, wingfoiling or surf skating.
Kitesurfing is perhaps one of the coolest sports on the water and gives a huge kick! Imagine skimming across the water with the wind in your hair. Not to mention the immensely high jumps you can make! Zandvoort’s beaches are ideal for letting the wind pull you forward and get your dose of adrenaline. And even if kitesurfing isn’t for you, you’ll still feast your eyes.
When the wind is favourable, I can be found on the beach kiting. Three years ago, I learnt to kitesurf on holiday. I now have all my own equipment. Kitesurfing is cool to do. Especially because I can jump high, then it’s like flying for a moment! Learn it yourself at one of the surf schools!

Anyone who thinks Stand Up Paddle boarding is only reserved for inland waters is wrong. In fact, you can SUP just fine on the North Sea. Of course, the sea has to be reasonably calm, but if you get past the surf into calmer waters, you can paddle all along the coast. And if you head back to the beach, you’ll naturally catch a wave.
One of the latest developments in surfing is Wingsurfing. Propelled by a kite, you skim across the water on a surfboard with a long fin. The faster you go, the higher you tower above the water. The wind doesn’t even have to blow hard for you to shoot forward. And of course you can also wingsurf in Zandvoort. At watersports centre The Spot, they will be happy to teach you how to master wingsurfing
A surf skateboard looks like a regular skateboard. The difference is in the trucks, to which the wheels are attached. On an ordinary skateboard, these only move from top to bottom, allowing you to make turns. With a surf skateboard, the trucks can also move forwards and backwards. This makes you incredibly manoeuvrable and really gives you the surf feeling. Want to learn how to surf skate? Sign up for lessons at Noosa.

You start with an on-shore explanation of the basics of surfing and everything to do with safety in the water. Then you go into the water and try to catch a wave under guidance. First, you lie down and gradually try to stand up.
The various surf schools have their own showers and changing rooms, so you can rinse off and change after surfing.
You will learn from experienced trainers how to surf safely and, above all, have fun. The instructor will teach you the basic skills and you will often manage to catch a wave standing up during the first lesson.
Afterwards, you can shower and change in special rooms at the surf schools. There are also surfing lessons for advanced surfers or you can hire equipment to go out on the water yourself. There are many recognised surf schools here to learn different water sports or to rent equipment so you can get started yourself. The surf schools are spread over Zandvoort’s almost 7 kilometres of beach and each school has its own atmosphere. Most are open from April to September.
So where better to learn surfing than Zandvoort! Almost always waves, it’s affordable, easy to reach and possible for everyone. Nice and wide and space for everyone. Especially ideal for Amsterdammers and surfers from the region, as you can get to the beach by train.
