Originally from Hawaii, where lifeguards would stand on their boards to keep an eye on novice surfers. But by now it is also quite common in the Netherlands: Stand Up Paddle Boarding, or SUPpen. And Zandvoort is also the right place for SUP lessons! Here you can learn Stand Up Paddling on the waves of the North Sea under the guidance of the best instructors. Are you already an experienced SUPper? At one of the surf schools, you can easily rent a SUP board and a wetsuit. Now there is really nothing standing in your way of paddling off into the sunset!
SUPing at sea differs from SUPing on inland waters. You cannot simply brave the surf with an inflatable board. During a SUP lesson at one of the water sports schools, you will learn everything you need to know.

Surfana Zandvoort
What do you do when there are no waves? Suppen, of course! At Surfana, you’ll start with (safety) instructions, after which you’ll hit the water. The first part of the stand-up paddle lesson consists of finding the balance on your board and mastering the board. You then learn to turn and speed. Depending on the conditions, we will then cover a distance or try to surf some waves on the SUP.
North Sea Watersports
If there are 5 to 10 of you, you can book a group lesson at North Sea Watersports. At the surf school on Zandvoort’s south beach, you will learn the basics of SUPing in the sea in 1.5 hours. The only thing you bring is your swimwear. You will get the wetsuit, board and paddle at North Sea Watersports. Of course, you can also bring your own wetsuit, if you have one.
For everyone’s safety, several water sports zones have been set up on the beach.
SUP is now a well-known workout. Paddling on a board across a calm sea with the setting sun in the background is wonderfully relaxing. But would you like to take your SUP skills to the next level? Try SUP foiling! The foil under the board lifts you up and adds an extra dimension to your SUP experience. It takes a bit of perseverance at first, but it’s so cool when you get the hang of it! On flat water, SUPing is already a workout, but at sea, it’s a step up. It really is the ultimate challenge and you can go in any direction. Learn to catch a wave on your sup-board or find peace and quiet during a sunset sup lesson.
You start with an on-shore explanation of the basics of SUPpening and everything to do with safety in the water. Then you get into the water and put theory into practice. And in no time you’ll be enjoying the swell of the sea behind the surf.
