Top 5 activities in nature

With so much nature around you, it is sometimes hard to choose what to do there. We would therefore like to help you with our personal 5 favourite activities in Zandvoort’s nature.

Deer in Zandvoort Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen

Go deer spotting

Top of the list is deer spotting. Because nowhere can you do that as well as in the Zandvoort dunes! In the Water Supply Dunes on the southern edge of Zandvoort, you will find the largest population of fallow deer in the Netherlands. And you don’t even have to look hard: even from the entrance to the area, you can see them along the footpaths. Enjoy this incredible experience every time.

Wisent in natur Zandvoort Bison-route

Stare eye-to-eye with primeval cattle

If you are looking for incredible (and especially unique!) experiences, then you should try our second tip. The Kraansvlak is a virtually untouched area behind Circuit Zandvoort, home to some very special animals: Wisents. These primeval cattle can grow up to 2.5 metres tall and you can come face to face with them. The Wisentenpad is open from September to March. But beware: they are still wild animals, so do not get too close. You can admire a stuffed animal at the visitor centre all year round.

Beach Clean Up with Juttersgeluk on beach Zandvoort Juttersgeluk

Make souvenirs from jute plastic

In a nature top 5, the beach should not be missing. Get a breath of fresh air in the sand or enjoy the sun on your face. All year round, visiting the beach gives you a sense of freedom. And then it is nice when that beach is clean. Beachcomber’s Happiness organises trips where you dig up plastic to make souvenirs. Educational, good for the environment and fun to do too. Tip: check out the beachcombers mu-Zee-um for unique souvenirs.

Bunker walk atlanticwall Zandvoort Bunkers in Zandvoort

Go on Bunker tour

At our fourth tip, dive more into the past. After all, Zandvoort has a very rich history. So does the nature around Zandvoort. In World War II, the village was part of the Atlantic Wall, the Germans’ defence line. As a result, you can still find plenty of bunkers in the dunes. Some well hidden under the sand, others easily visible. And the nice thing is that you can visit several of them from the inside as well. Mind your head and watch out for bats

Herbal tea Zandvoort

Make herbal tea

We complete the top five with a tip for the inner man. The dunes are home to an enormous variety of herbs. And you can use them for different things, for instance to make tea. Herbalist Corine Busman is happy to take you on an excursion to show you which herbs you can use for this. The tea itself is for sale at various locations in Zandvoort.
