Zuid-Kennemerland National Park (38 km²) is a paradise for nature lovers and active recreation enthusiasts. The extensive network of paved cycle paths winds through a beautiful, rolling landscape, offering endless cycling pleasure. Hikers and runners enjoy varied routes through forests, dunes, and along vast sandy plains. A definite highlight is a guided walk to the impressive bison that inhabit the area, organized by the visitor center. This unique nature reserve combines peace and quiet with sporting opportunities, just a stone’s throw from Zandvoort. An ideal destination for a day full of surprises. Plan your visit and experience it for yourself!
To protect fragile natural environments and avoid causing disruption to other visitors, dogs are allowed in the National Park in very limited numbers. This also applies to dogs in bicycle baskets or trailers. Therefore, always pay attention to the signs at the entrances. There are several designated areas where you can go out with your four-legged friend, for example, in Brouwerskolkpark (off-leash) and in Elswout (on-leash).
Breeding season in the dunes
Breeding season in the dunes runs from March 15th to July 15th . Many birds build their nests during this period, often right next to hiking trails. Therefore, during your walk or bike ride, stay on marked trails and respect any temporary route closures. This way, birds and other animals get the peace and quiet they need to raise their young.
Please note: the Bison Trail in Zuid-Kennemerland National Park is closed from March 1st to September 1st to provide additional peace and quiet for the wildlife in Kraansvlak. From the bison viewing point at the Zanderij entrance, you can still spot the animals well.
