Want to start the new year fresh? Then come to the cozy New Year’s Dive in Zandvoort. On January 1, you can jump into the cold water with thousands of visitors. Did you know that Zandvoort is the oldest dive in the Netherlands? In 1960, Ok van Batenburg and a group of swimmers from Njord ’59 from Haarlem started this tradition here.
Young, old, male or female, from grandchild to grandpa and grandma, it doesn’t matter, everyone is welcome. Registration is completely free and you can do it in advance via the website or on the day itself. After registration you will receive a nice but especially warm present. After the dive you will also get a cup of warm pea soup.
Before you jump into the water there is a special warm-up with nice music. Then you take off your clothes and as soon as the starting signal is given you run with thousands of others towards the sea for a refreshing dive. Afterwards, dry off quickly and put on clothes because there are no showers. There are no changing facilities and showers available so make sure you are already wearing your swimwear. Be sure to bring a nice thick towel, bathrobe or jogging pants!
This event will involve photo and video recordings. When you participate in this event, you give the organization permission to use images (photo and video) of you for communication purposes.
Program
- We will have music on stage from 12:00!
- At 13:45 the warm up starts. Here The Dance Academy and The Fit Academy will make sure that everyone is completely ready to dive into the water.
- At 2:00 pm it’s time, everyone runs into the cold water! When you get out of the water there will be soup ready, the music will go on until about 3:00 pm.
It’s fun if you come diving, but just cheering or watching is also perfectly fine. If you don’t live in Zandvoort and still want to take a hot shower, book a room in one of the many accommodations that Zandvoort has to offer.
It is advisable to arrive on time because there are many participants for the New Year’s Dive. If you come by train, it is about a 5-minute walk from the station. Please note that due to New Year’s Day there is an adjusted timetable for both the bus and the train.
