Classical concert in the Protestant Church of Zandvoort with Wind Ensemble Septentriones conducted by Herman Draaisma.

Eleven enthusiastic musicians with a shared interest in chamber music have formed the wind ensemble Septentriones since the autumn of 2002.

The basic instrumentation is a double wind quintet, consisting of two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, and two horns, supplemented by a double bass.

The ensemble works on two or three projects per year. A short period of intensive rehearsals concludes with concerts at various locations in the Netherlands. The repertoire consists of classical, romantic, and contemporary works.

Septentriones is Latin for the constellation Ursa Major on the one hand, and the north and north wind on the other. The wind ensemble Septentriones was founded in the Stars and Planets neighborhood in Amsterdam-North, and the members are (almost) all from North Holland.

Since March 2007, Septentriones has been led by Herman Draaisma.
