KNRM 200 years - Rescuers at Sea and Zandvoort Heroes
On Friday 6 September 2024, the Zandvoorts Museum will open the exhibition ‘KNRM 200 years - Rescuers at Sea’, a tribute to the heroes who have voluntarily saved lives at sea for 200 years.
Portrait series Zandvoort Heroes
A special part of this exhibition is the portrait series ‘Zandvoort Heroes’, created by photographer Joyce Goverde. In this series, Goverde brings to life the stories of courageous Zandvoort KNRM volunteers. The portraits provide an intimate look at the life and work of these rescuers and show how important their commitment is to the community of Zandvoort.
Past and future
The exhibition ties in with the theme ‘Surrounded by the past, heading for the future’, which is central to the jubilee year of the Royal Dutch Rescue Society (KNRM). The Zandvoorts Museum looks back at 200 years of history of the rescue service, but also looks ahead to the future. With this exhibition, the museum makes a symbolic start of a new direction, aimed at connecting historical and contemporary stories.
The exhibition can be seen from 7 September to 22 December 2024 at the Zandvoorts Museum. Open Wednesday to Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
