About twenty smokers will set up their “smoke barrel” at 09:00 on the Kerkplein and stoke the fire at 10:00. The mackerels will be in the barrel for 3 to 3.5 hours. At 14:00 they must hand in 1 mackerel for the championship. The expert jury will determine the winner around 14:30. After the prize-giving ceremony, the fresh mackerels will be sold for the Zandvoort charity.
